About Chris

Chris Vollum is an Oakville-based resident and recognized authority on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook & Tumblr.

In March of 2007, Chris’ grade eight daughter wanted to join Facebook because “everyone else was on it.”

Armed with a deep understanding of Facebook’s most current policies and settings, Chris established Facebook 101 in 2007 with the sole purpose of educating parents, teachers, administrators and students on how to effectively apply their Facebook profile settings to minimize privacy breaches and proactively defend against cyber-bullying. But that was then.

As students shift away from Facebook, the sole purpose of the brand new “Social Web – Schools” is to educate students, parent, teachers and administrators on how to cultivate a mindset of respectful online digital citizenship and reputation management with an emphasis on safety, personal discretion, security and privacy.

Described as a “must see” event by school administrators, police services, parents and students, Chris’ user-friendly workshop delivers a balanced and detailed look into the vast world of social media and networking, and how parents and schools can support students in their inevitable online journey.

As of May 2013, Facebook 101 has been presented to more than 260,000 students throughout 22 Ontario School Boards and independent schools.
